Best Buy Rating!
Industry Leading Warranty

sole elliptical trainer review and ratingMy goal in reviewing fitness equipment is to find the best value in a certain price ranges. I get excited when I locate a product that stands out from the crowd. The Sole E55 elliptical trainer is one of those rare finds. Sole Fitness seems to have a knack for combining exceptional features, with quality components, and backing their products with extensive warranties.

I've tested all of their products, and each blows away comparable machines. The Sole E55 is a perfect example. The elliptical motion is extremely smooth, relatively quiet, and at almost 200 lbs., it is rock solid.

It normally sells for $1,499, including shipping. Comparable machines will easily go for over $2,000. Click here for the latest prices on the Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer.

Comfortable 20" Stride Length

sole elliptical trainer consoleIn particular, I like the long 20" stride. It has a wide, fluid elliptical motion. With so many ellipticals, the motion is more circular and bouncy. This is true with many of the budget models from Icon and Horizon. The 20" stride on the E55 feels like you are walking or running on air.

In the review below you will notice the customer mentions the stride is close to a Precor. That is quite a compliment. (It should be noted, if you are under 5'4" you may find the stride too long. In which case I recommend the Smooth 2.1 or the New Balance 9.0.)

For those unfamiliar with Sole products, they only build treadmills and elliptical trainers. Their residential treadmills are used by the Hilton chain for in-room workouts. That says something about their quality and durability. Their treadmills have received several important Best Buy ratings.

You'll find the same quality in their elliptical trainers. They are built to last, and come with industry leading warranties. The E55 has a lifetime frame, a 5-year parts and 2-year labor warranty. For the first two years they fix any problems. A sweet proposition.

My only criticism is the LCD display. I would prefer to see a LED display with multiple windows, but when you consider the entire package, this is an insignificant compromise.

The Sole E55 elliptical features include:

  • A heavy 30 lb. flywheel
  • Articulating foot pedals (angles with your stride)
  • Long 20" elliptical stride length
  • Wireless heart rate control
  • 16 levels of resistance
  • 190 lb. weight
  • Built-in fans
  • Four wheel rails
  • Lifetime frame warranty
  • 5-year electronics and parts warranty
  • 2-year labor warranty

Our Review

Unless you plan to spend over $2,000, you are not going to find a better machine. The quality of the components, features, company reputation and extensive warranty make the Sole E55 a rare find. Although not up to the commercial grade of a Precor or Life Fitness, this elliptical will handle extensive workouts. I have yet to receive a complaint about the machine or the company.

Customer Review

The first thing that I noticed when I stepped on to the Sole E55 elliptical was that it felt very sturdy and it was as solid as a rock. The other ellipticals that I had tried were all flimsy feeling and wobbly. The Sole felt like it was anchored to the ground. That's great but what about the stride? The stride felt very close to the Precor and the gliding action was smooth and nearly silent! I noticed a little more heel lift than I preferred but when I took a closer look I saw that the foot pads were adjustable. I was able to quickly change the pitch and guess what...no more heel lift. I was amazed!
