The Yowza Daytona treadmill, named after a beach in Florida, is a solid running machine at a reasonable price. The company that builds it, GreenMaster, has been manufacturing fitness equipment for the last 27 years, and they are very good at it. The Daytona is a perfect example. It is engineered to provide a superior running experience, in addition to having an impressive service record. The lifetime motor, 5-year parts and 2-year labor warranty is an indication that this is a low maintenance machine.
If you are a runner, in comparison to a casual jogger, you want a treadmill that can take a beating. Treadmills at around $1,000 are typically not up to the task of handling the abuse of runners. I read a study that stated runners impact the surface at 2.5 times their weight. Now multiple that by tens of thousands of strides and imagine what a treadmill must withstand.
Note: The Yowza Daytona treadmill typicall sells for $1,999, which includes free shipping and 2-year labor warranty. Go to www.YowzaTreadmills.com

Yowza Daytona Treadmill Features...
Deck and Shock Absorption Design — The Yowza Daytona does an excellent job of handling the impact of runners. First the deck sits on a series of rubber elastometers that look like big black marshmallows. Their thicker at the front of the deck and thinner towards the rear. The reason is that you want more shock absorption towards the front where you foot lands, while you want a more solid push-off towards the rear.
To further reduce the shock of impact and reduce strain to your ankles, knees, hips, and back, the front of the deck utilizes a rocker arm, they call it a Swing Arm. As you impact the deck you will see the Swing Arm move with the motion. The combination of the elastometers and the Swing Arm contribute to a very forgiving shock absorption system.
3.0 Continuous Duty HP Motor — At this price most treadmills have at least a 3.0 HP motor. The motor that Yowza uses on the Daytona is industrial strength and runs very quiet. It will run effortlessly at running speeds and should last the lifetime of the machine. That is why they gave it a lifetime warranty.
Intelligent Weight Managment — The trend in treadmills is to provide incentive and motivation to get you to achieve your fitness goals. Yowza has a unique concept called the Intelligent Weight Management. In a nutshell you get a weight scale that downloads your weight and body mass stats to the treadmill. "Press Start and IWM will adjust your workout time, speed and incline automatically to make you burn a pre-prescribed amount of calories all based on real-time data." Interesting!
20" x 60" TreadBelt — The 60" length is getting to be standard at this price. It comfortably allows for taller indivduals and the longer strides of runners.
249 Lb. Unit Weight — Both the weight and the machine design contribute to a very solid and stable feel, which is a necessary requirement if you plan to run.
Workout Programs — You get 16 installed programs to add a variety of challenges and to keep you motivated. Several of the programs have a series of intensity levels. There are also three user defined programs, and you have the ability to store user stats for up to nine individuals. You can recall this info to get specific feedback based on your age, weight and fitness level.
Heart Rate Control — The Daytona has wireless heart rate control, which includes the wireless belt. You can define the level of your exertion based on your heart rate. This method of exercising is used by professional athletes to optimize their workout.
Console Design and Features — Tthe console tends to be more stylish than many. It has a smart layout to it, making it easy to make adjustments or change programs. It includes speakers and a docking station for a MP3 player. When I talked to the head of the U.S. operations, he mentioned that he wanted a sound system that wasn't an embarrassment. I actually have an elliptical with a sound system that is an embarrassment. The speakers on the Daytona console actually do a decent job and provide a degree of clarity. There is also a fan built into the console with three speeds.
Our Review - Yowza Daytona Treadmill
I previously worked for a company that sold GreenMaster fitness equipment, and from my personal experience they build some of the most durable machines in their price range. They also do an excellent job of engineering treadmills that minimize the abuse that comes with walking, jogging or running. The Yowza Daytona is a culmination of years of development that has resulted in a treadmill that will do a superb job in satisfying the needs of a runner.
I asked Joe Alter, the company president, to compare the Daytona to another popular $2,000 treadmill, the Sole F85. He felt that Sole makes a good product, but that the Daytona has a more solid feel because it is a non-folding treadmill. The swing arm absorption does a better job of absorbing shock and the whisper weave belt is quieter. And you have the inclusion of the IWM for monitoring your weight. While the iPod Dock and premium speakers provide a much better sound system.
I would put the Daytona is the top ranks of a serious running machine at the $2,000 price range.
