True
had always been considered one of the best treadmills on the market.
In fact, they claim to have invented the concept of a treadmill.
True virtually never advertises their treadmills. Rather, they rely
on the PR from the numerous top ratings they receive. This has proven
very effective.
In
addition, you'll find True treadmills in many health clubs, which
is another excellent form of promotion. It also says something about
the durability of the machines.
But
these days, with all the new brands and models coming out, the nature
of the treadmill market has changed, and True has seen their market
share erode over the last several years.
In
addition to their high-end competitors, there are a number of companies
that are offering mid-rage priced treadmills that are gaining in
popularity. In fact, when you match up specifications, True appears
to be overpriced. But the specifications do not reveal the quality
control that goes into the construction of a True treadmill. Their
treadmills are durable and are built to last. They are engineered
with superior components. But all this comes at a price.
True's
most popular treadmill is the Z4. As mentioned above when you compare
the specs to other models, this treadmill is nothing spectacular.
It has a moderate 20" x 54" running surface and a 2.75
continuous duty hp motor. There are treadmills selling for considerably
less with the same specs. Although the warranty on the True Z4 is
respectable with 10 years motor, 5 years deck/roller/belt, 3 years
parts and 1 year labor.
It
should also be noted that although True is one of the few companies
that still manufacturers in the U.S., but the Z4 is built overseas.
True
offers three version of the Z4 treadmill:
- True
Z4 P - standard model ($2,099*)
- True
Z4 HRC - Includes heart rate control ($2,399*)
- True
Z4 HRCO - Includes heart rate control and orthopedic belt ($2,699*)

Z4 Treadmill Reviews
Our
Review
Although
the treadmill has a good feel, is quiet and generally reliable,
we feel there are comparable models for less. In the $2,000-$3,000
price range there are companies like Landice that makes a monster
of a treadmill for a similar price. There are companies like Sole
Fitness that have comparable models for $500 or more less (Sole
Fitness is offering 30 motor, 5 year parts and 2 year labor for
most of their models.).
On
the otherhand, when you get into their top of the line models, you
won't find better treadmills.
