The
Smooth 7.1 Pro is one of the most popular treadmills sold online in the $1,500-$2,000
price range. This model has been out for a few years and besides being well-engineered,
it has a good service track record. They have a lifetime warranty on the motor,
and 5 years parts coverage. A good indication on the quality of the components.
I owned
the Smooth 9.15 (Now the Smooth 9.17 HRO), which
is built on the same frame and has many of the same features. The primary difference
is the Smooth 9.15 has a slightly larger motor and upgraded console and display.
Note: As of 5/2/08 the Smooth 7.1 Pro was selling for $1,999. Not that great of a deal. The Smooth 6.25 is a better offer at $1,399 with Free in-room delivery.

7.1 PRO FeaturesPower
Folding - The
treadmill comes with a power folding feature. I've had some minor problems with
getting the knob to lock into position to allow the treadmill to fold. Usually
a slight jolt gets it into place. It
should be noted that moving this treadmill on the wheels is rather difficult.
If you are looking for a treadmill that you can easily move in and out of a closet
or storage space, this is not the one. At 280 lbs, you want to find a permanent
location and leave it there. Also, unlike other folding treadmills, when it folds
it still takes up considerable space. That is do to the wide base, which is another
contributing factor to the stability. Impression
Shock Absorption Deck- The
deck offers a nice balance of shock absorption without being too bouncy. The "Impression
Shock Absorption Technology" uses rocker arms to absorb the impact.
You can actually see the deck move when you run. The reduction in impact is considerable
in comparison to running on concrete or asphalt. 20"
x 54" Treadbelt - The treadbelt is 54" long. I am 5'8" and
running or sprinting is comfortable. I would suggest if you are over 6'1"
and/or occasionally sprint, you may want to look at a treadmill with an extended
deck (See Smooth 9.25 and Sole
F85 treadmills). Stable
and Solid Feel - Based on my personal experience I can say for a folding treadmill
the Smooth 7.1 is very stable. This is attributed to the heavy weight of the machine.
The Smooth 7.1 weighs in at a hefty 280 lbs. This treadmill is sold as a rock,
but it is also a hassle to move. You'll need several strong individuals to move
this treadmill inside the house. The alternative is to purchase the turnkey shipping
service, which includes inside delivery and set-up. 2.75
HP Motor - The Smooth 7.1 Pro is equipped with a 2.75 hp continuous duty motor.
The model I have comes with a 3.0 hp motor. Even at the higher speeds it does
not appear to strain and is reasonably quiet. I would imagine with the 2.75 hp
motor you would get similar results. Obviously the motor must hold up well since
they provide a lifetime warranty. Wireless
Heart Rate Control - For those that prefer letting the level of their heart
rate control their exertion level, the 7.1 comes with wireless heart rate control.
I prefer to control my workout manually, but there are many experts that claim
using heart rate control can optimize your exercise. Premium
LED Console - The
LED console is well designed and easy to use. You have five different windows
that allow you to view speed, distance, calories, time and pulse simultaneously.
Lenghty
Warranty - You get a generous warranty. As mentioned, you get a lifetime motor
warranty, 5 year parts and 1 year labor. At this price range the only other manufacturer
that is comparable is Sole Fitness.

Source Review - Smooth 7.1 PRO TreadmillIs
the Smooth 7.1 Pro treadmill a good value? It depends on the current price! Smooth
changes their sales prices on a weekly basis. The price can range from $1,700
- $2,000. If you find it at $2,000 you can either wait for it to go back down,
or consider the Smooth 6.25 at $1,500. (Note all
prices include shipping.)
When
the price is competitive, the Smooth 7.1 PRO offers excellent value by providing
good features, solid performance, a good service record and an extensive warranty.
It should be noted I had a 9.15 for about a year. It is very similar. I found
it to be very stable, quiet and quite capable of handling running and steep incline
training. Customer
Review A
quality item The Smooth Fitness 7.1 HR Pro treadmill is the best home
treadmill I have ever seen. I bought it about 3 months ago and am extremely happy
with it. It has all of the bells & whistles that the $5000 treadmills have
for under $2000, and it's just as tough as the more expensive ones. It is heavy,
solid, accurate with its many readings and very sturdy.
I belonged
to a health club to use their treadmills for the last 3 years. I finally decided
to buy my own and did a lot of research before I bought one. I am happier than
I ever thought I would be with this Smooth Fitness unit. I recommended it highly
and give it the highest grades.
