The
ProForm Perspective ES treadmill has some impressive features for the price, including
a flat screen TV and a sweet sound system. Both which help to overcome
the monotony of exercising in place. It is also equipped with a hefty motor and
an extra long deck.
Considering the moderate price, you can see why this
treadmill is such a big seller.
Note: As of 7/22/08 the Perspective ES was selling for $1,249,
with shipping. Go to
www.ProForm.com
to learn more. Also check out the
NordicTrack
ViewPoint 3000, selling for $999. Both build by the same company and are similar in features.
The ProForm Perspective treadmill can be used for walking, jogging or running.
If you are a serious runner, I would upgrade to a model in the $2,000+ range,
but for a casual runner, it should be ideal. I tested this treadmill when I was
at the Icon corporate headquarters. I cranked up the speed, set the incline to
the limit, bounced up and down on the deck and generally abused the machine. Through
it all, it seemed like a solid and durable treadmill.
The
Video and Sound Features
7"
Flat Screen Television - The advent of flat screen technology means now you
can cram a TV into a treadmill. You can choose from a gazillion cable channels
or view your favorite DVD. A better solution than having a separate television
off to the side. Also, when the TV is not on, the screen becomes a multi-color
display, providing various feedback on your workout.
Premium Sound System
- MP3 Compatible - They didn't skimp on the quality of the speakers, and they
include a subwoofer. I turn-up the volume and was impressed. If you buy this treadmill
and never use it, at least you'll have a rockin stereo.
The
Perspective Treadmill Components
3.0 Continuous Duty HP Motor
- ProForm uses McMillan motors, which have an excellent reputation. They claim
it is commercial grade, which is pushing it, but the durability is reflected in
the 20-year motor warranty.
Large 2.5" Rollers - The ProForm
Perspective ES is equipped with 2.5" rollers. When it comes to rollers the
bigger the better. Large rollers reduce the wear and tear on the motor, the treadbelt,
bearings and the rollers themselves.
60" Extra Long Deck -
A 60" deck really makes a difference, particularly if you are running or
a tall individual. If you are a walker 55" is suffice, but when running you
won't feel like you about to run off the end.
28 Workout Programs -
I believe the Perspective ES has more programs than any other treadmills. If you
like to change-up your workout, you will find a variety of challenges each focusing
on aerobic, weight-loss or performance goals.
Warranty - Although
the motor warranty is good, the 1-year parts and labor is below average. That
is due to the fact ProForm wants to sell you additional coverage. I would suggest
you get one or two more years coverage. Even with the additional cost, this treadmill
is still a good value.
Our Review - ProForm Perspective ES
Treadmill
If the ProForm Perspective did not include the TV or sound system,
I would say it was worth considering due to the large motor and rollers, long
deck and the generous selection of programs. When you include the flat screen
TV and sound system, this treadmill is very appealing.
What about the durability of the Perspective? The staff at ProForm
tells me it has a good service record, with few returns. I could
not find any reviews to verify either way.
