The ProForm 780 CS treadmill appears to be quite a machine for its relatively low cost; although it isn’t perfect by any means. The 2.25 CHP motor has a self-cooling system that can extend its life.
The motor is backed by a 25-year warranty, which indicates that it is a decent motor. Unfortunately, this motor is too lightweight for runners and is actually practical only for walkers. Nevertheless, the 780 CS does have some other good qualities.

One thing I like about the ProForm 780 CS treadmill is its iFit technology. This technology works with interactive iFit workout cards that have been designed by Certified Personal Trainers. Just plug an iFit card directly into the console and let the voice of the CPT guide you through your workout. Speed and incline levels are automatically adjusted through the iFit card technology. By faithfully performing these iFit workouts, you should notice an overall improvement in your endurance and fitness within eight weeks.
Another thing I like about the ProForm 780 CS treadmill is the iPod dock and built-in speakers. There’s nothing more motivating than listening to your favorite music while exercising.
What other features come on the ProForm 780 CS treadmill?
Other features on the ProForm 780 CS treadmill are fairly standard on most of today’s treadmills. Those features include:
- Heart rate monitor with grip pulse sensors in the handlebars – Getting a heart rate reading with this type of monitor may be a bit awkward in the midst of exercising. Nevertheless, any kind of heart rate monitor is better than none.
- Cooling fan – Having a little breeze blowing towards your upper body during workouts can keep you somewhat cooler and more comfortable. When you’re comfortable, you’re better able to get through exercise sessions.
- Backlit LCD display – When it comes to an LCD display, backlit is preferable. It’s easier to read than other LCD displays.
- Incline – The 780 CS treadmill can incline up to 12% with the touch of a button. Walking on an incline increases the intensity of your workouts, burning more calories and working muscles differently than walking on a flat surface.
- Workout programs – The ProForm 780 CS has 15 built-in workout programs. That’s quite a variety of programs for a treadmill in this price range. Whatever your fitness goal, there’s a program that can help you achieve it.
Our Review – The ProForm 780 CS Treadmill
If you are looking for a starter treadmill that is adequate for walking, the ProForm 780 CS is a worthy contender. Granted, the parts and labor warranty is only one year. But that’s much better than the 90-day parts and labor warranty that comes with so many inexpensive treadmills! Plus, you get the iFit technology and an iPod dock with this model. Those are a couple of great features!
If you’re a walker and want a treadmill only for walking, the ProForm 780 CS treadmill is a decent, affordable choice. If, however, you are looking for a machine to run on, this is not the treadmill for you. Or if you are excessively heavy spend a little more money to get a sturdier, more powerful model.
