The ProForm 4.5 Trainer ranks as a mid-range budget treadmill. Considering the features and the price it is not a bad value. However, you need to be aware of the limitations of the machine.

When you look at the price (As of 8/6/08 selling for $549 with shipping), and minus the cost of shipping, there is not a lot left over for building the treadmill. Some compromise is made, and that is in the components. The ProForm 4.5 Trainer is a budget treadmill built with budget components.

That said, for the money you are getting some decent features.

2.75 Continuous Duty HP Motor - This motor has reasonable power. Ideal for walkers.

20" x 55" Treadbelt - Not a bad size for the price. If you are over 6'2" you would probably want a longer belt.

iPod Plug-in with Speakers - You can plug your iPod directly into the treadmill and rock as you sweat off those calories.

Shock Absorption - Not the best, but better than walking on asphalt.

Custom Weight Loss Center - Programming designed to help you reach your fitness goals.

Warranty - Lifetime motor and 1-year parts and labor. Not bad for the price.

Our Review - ProForm 4.5 Trainer

The ProForm 4.5 Trainer is a lightweight machine, built for lightweight usage. They put a 300 lbs. user weigh limit. Get real! I would not purchase this treadmill if you weigh over 200 lbs.

I would only recommend this treadmill for walkers. I don't feel the overall construction can handle the impact from jogging or running.

I would also recommend you get the extended warranty. For a budget model like this, the extra coverage makes sense.

Who Should Buy the ProForm 4.5 Treadmill?

This treadmill is best for someone who wants to get back into shape and lose weight, but who has a limited budget. If the treadmill ends up as a clothes rack you haven't wasted too much money.
