You
know why you do not want to buy the ProForm 400 GL treadmill, because
of the 17" x 50" treadbelt. This is a confined surface
for walking, and don't even consider running on it. Maybe it is
acceptable to someone under 5', but for an average size person the
width is very limited, and the short length makes you feel like
your walking off the edge.
The only feature that standouts on this treadmill is the 2.75
hp continuous duty motor. In fact, I can't understand why they
included such a powerful motor on a treadmill with such a small
deck.
If you look at the photo of the ProForm 400 treadmill, you'll notice
the model running. This treadmill is not designed for runners
or joggers. You'll also notice that there is a 300 lbs. weight
limit. The motor may be able to handle that weight, but I do not
feel the rest of the machine is designed to accommodate that amount.
Also,
they mention that the ProForm 400 is iFit compatible. iFit controls
the speed and incline of the treadmill. You purchase a series of
programs that focus on different fitness goals like weight loss,
body shaping and endurance. Each workout is designed by a personal
trainer and includes with audio coaching.
The 400 GL has the older technology where you have to plug-in for
an external source. The newer models that are iFit compatible work
off disks that you insert into the machine. Less cumbersome.
Of course, the ProForm 400 does come with hand weights, but you
can buy the same set for $25 at a sporting goods store. Not a selling
a feature.
Our Review - ProForm 400 GL Treadmill
I'm not crazy about this treadmill for two reasons, it appears
to have a fairly thin deck, and the 17" wide treadbelt is very
confining.
Here are two options. Spend $999 and get a Smooth
5.45 with a 20" x 53" treadbelt, 7 workout programs,
and a much better shock absorption deck. You also get a lifetime
motor, 3-year parts and 1-year labor warranty.
Or
Consider the ProForm Perspective
LX 1.0 treadmill with a built-in 7" flat screen TV. It
comes with a 20" x 55" treadbelt. Also $999.
Regarding the warranty on the 400 GL, most of ProForm treadmills
come with a 90-day parts and labor warranty. Usually the motor warranty
is longer. You'll want to extend the warranty. I recommend to two
years.
