Considering the price, what makes the ProForm 11.5 Competitor treadmill appealing is the 3.0 continuous duty HP motor and the 60" long treadbelt. A motor this size with a belt that long is more likely found on a $1,500+ treadmill.
You will find that the motor is adequate for jogging and running. It will not strain at higher speeds or steep inclines, and should be reasonable quiet. It comes with a lifetime warranty, which is indicative of the quality.
The 60" deck is appealing for a couple of reasons. It better accommodates taller individuals and it is suited for running or interval training. You will find that a more standard 54" belt gives you the feeling you are about to fall off the end.
Note: As of 7/22/08 the ProForm 11.5 Competitor was selling for $839 with shipping. Go to www.ProForm.com for the latest price.
I'm not crazy about the console and display. It looks cheap and comes with a very basic readout. However, considering the other features and the price, there has to be some kind of compromise. Regardless, the display still provided multiple readouts on your progress. It also visually displays your heartbeat or an animated figure walking, jogging or running. A neat gimmick!
What I do like about the ProForm 11.5 Competitor treadmill is the wide selection of workout programs - you get 24 programs that focuses on different fitness goals like aerobics, weight-loss and performance. In general, ProForm tends to offer more programs than their competitors.
Changing up you workouts is an excellent way to break out of the rut. When you reach a plateau you stop burning additional calories. You will find that several of the programs are focused on interval training, which optimizes you workout and gets more results in less time.
One other feature worth noting is the Competition Training Center . You race head to head against a variety of virtual competitors. This can be another excellent motivator, which gives you the thrill of competition.
Our Review - ProForm 11.5 Competitor Treadmill
As mentioned above, what makes the ProForm 11.5 Competitor worth considering is the motor and the deck. In addition, the generous selection of workout programs and the Competition Training Center are also appealing features.
However, I would not recommend this treadmill for serious runners. This machine should be adequate for joggers, but if you plan to run, you want to consider a higher end machine in the $1,800+ price range.
Also, you may want to consider upgrading the warranty at least an additional year. The cost is not that much.
