Precor 9.31 treadmill reviewPrecor builds some of the most durable and reliable treadmills in industry.  They are available for both residential and commercial use, and commercial treadmills must be able to withstand a beating.  The Precor 9.31 treadmill is one of their most popular models, and in fact , it recently received a "Best Buy" rating from a very prestigious consumer magazine, whose name I cannot mention.

If there is any drawback to Precor treadmills it is their price.  But you get what you pay for.  If you were to spec out the Precor 9.31 to other models, you could find budget treadmills that have more impressive specs for around $1,000.  But the difference between Precor and those brands is like the difference between a Lexus and a Kia.  You are paying for exceptional quality and engineering.

Note:  As of 7/23/10 the Precor 9.31 treadmill was selling for $3,699 with free shipping.  That is $300 less than the Precor website.  Go to www.Amazon.com for the latest deal.*

If you are suffering from sticker shock, check out the Sole T88 treadmill.  It also has a 22" wide belt and sells for $2,299 with shipping.

Precor 9.31 Treadmill Features

22" x 56" Treadbelt — What makes this treadmill a standout, besides the quality, is the 22" wide belt.  This is 2" wider than your typical treadmill.  Two inches may not seem like a lot, but it provides a wider birth for running.  You feel less confined.   Note:  If you are above 6' you may want to consider a machine with a longer belt.

Precor 9.31 treadmill console335 lbs Unit Weight — This is very heavy for a treadmill.  In fact, it is commercial heavy.  What that means is a treadmill that is rock solid.  It can handle serious runners doing springs and interval training.  It can also handle heavier individuals.  Don't believe a 150 lbs. treadmill can handle a 300 lbs. individual.  It will not only be unstable, but will eventually breakdown from the impact.

3.0 Continuous Duty HP Motor — Once again, there are treadmills that are considerably less that come with larger motors, but not all treadmill motors are alike.   Precor uses industrial strength motors that will run effortlessly at higher speeds and steep inclines.

Deck Shock Absorption — The technology behind the deck and treadbelt minimizes shock to your joints and reduces fatigue.  Also their innovative design adjusts the belt speed to your foot speed, thereby complimenting and supporting your natural stride.  There is a significant difference in the feel and motion in comparison to cheaper models.

Warranty — An indication of the quality of the components is the parts warranty, which covers 10 years.  You also get a 1-year service coverage.

Safety Feature — There has been some press about accidents involving treadmills and children.  Precor added a feature that will only activate the treadmill with your personal password.

In addition to the above you get several challenging workout programs and heart rate control .

Our Review - Precor 9.31 Treadmill

Precor is one of the top 3 treadmills companies for both commercial and residential models.  Their machines are all about reliability and quality.  That translates into a very low maintenance treadmill that enhances your fitness workouts.  However, those benefits come at a cost.  If you have the money, you won't be disappointed.

Customer Review (Amazon)

This is a very solid, well built treadmill. My only wish for this model is that it had at least one user memory function. I have to re-enter my weight and age with every start up. User memory functions are available on higher end models, but I didn't need the additional features of those models and hence didn't want to spend the additional money. I am not a runner, just a fast walker, so the track length, speeds, and inclines levels are perfect for me. The included heart rate monitor chest strap is very useful for monitoring workouts.

It came unassembled and was very heavy. Two men had to deliver it. I engaged the local certified Precor repair company to set it up for me. I didn't watch the entire process, so I don't know how difficult it would be for a novice to assemble it. However, with the savings from Amazon, and the free shipping due to the Prime membership, even with the additional assembly fee - I saved a great deal over what the local Precor store was offering.
