The NordicTrack T9 ci Treadmill is one of several new releases for 2009. I've watched this company closely over the last few years and there has been several important trends.
First, they have improved the quality of the equipment. Their machines are more durable then they were in the past. Of course, a $1,000 treadmill is not going to hold up like a $3,000 model, but within their price range, their treadmills hold-up well in comparison to their competition.
Second, their treadmills are equipped with some of the most innovative programming features you'll find on any machine. Most are designed to motivate you and help you achieve your fitness goals.
Note:As of 11/18/09 the NordicTrack T9 ci was selling for $1,599 with shipping. Worth considerably less. Go to NordicTrackTreadmills.com latest price.
Finally, NordicTrack has made significant strides in their customer service. To be blunt, a few years ago their service sucked, and because of that my reviews were not very favorable. However, a couple of years ago NordicTrack invested the money and the resources to improve their service and response to customer. There is still glitches during the peak holiday season, but that is the case with all fitness manufacturers.
Before I get into the features of the NordicTrack T9 ci treadmill, I want to mention the fact that this new model is rather stylish. So many treadmills are just plain boring looking. They tend to have the same boxy look. The T9 has smooth lines, with a console that offers a contemporary look and feel.
NordicTrack T9 ci Treadmill Features.
20" x 60" Treadbelt - There are few treadmills in this price range that offer a 60" long treadbelt. This feature is particularly attractive to talker individuals. The belt is around 6" longer than the average, and you feel less like you are about to walk or run off the end.
2.5 Continuous Duty HP Motor - This motor is sufficient for both walking and jogging. It is reasonably quiet, and considering it comes with a lifetime warranty, you can expect it to be very durable.
Adjustable Cushioning - Allows you to soften or harden the shock absorption, depending on your preference.
Built-in Sound System - The speakers and drivers on the NordicTrack T9 ci are above average quality, giving you a better sound than most treadmill speaker systems.
iFIT Technology - This patent technology is found on many NordicTrack treadmills. You purchase programs that focus on different fitness goals, like weight loss or performance. Each card covers a progressive 8 week period. The programs control the speed and incline, and provide audio coaching. This feature has developed a loyal following, and there is now a web site devoted to iFIT, which includes forums.
Built-in Fan - The machine I have does not have a built-in fan, so I have to have a large noisy fan next to me when it is warm. Having the fan directed at your core is a real plus in keeping cool.
Competition Training Center - This is a new feature on their 2009 models. As described by NordicTrack, "Experience the thrill of victory with this challenging training technology which allows you to race head-to-head against a wide variety of virtual competitors to add motivation, excitement and determination to every workout." Some may find this gimmicky, others will appreciate a feature that motivates you to reach new goals.
Our Review - NordicTrack T9 ci Treadmill
NordicTrack has always offered some of the best value in the $1,000 price range. They combine quality and innovation. The T9 ci is no exception. In particular, the 60" long treadbelt make this an attractive offer for the price.
A few notes. The 325 lbs. user weight limit is high - I would place it at around 240 lbs. The warranty is average with one-year parts and labor coverage. Protect your investment with an extended warranty. The price is reasonable. Finally, I would recommend this treadmill for moderate use. It is adequate for both walkers and joggers. Runners should consider an upgraded model with a larger motor.
