I rated the 2012 NordicTrack Commercial 1750 Treadmill a "Best Buy" for several reasons. At $1,499, it out-specs the competition with features like a 7" full-color Android Browser, 3.5 HP motor, 60" running surface, premiun sound system, 3" rollers and 5-year parts and 2-year labor warranty. However, being iFit Live compatible is what makes this machine a stand-out.
iFit Live is the next generation of iFit technology. Previously, iFit consisted of computer cards that you purchased, which provided 8-weeks of progressive exercise routines. They controlled the incline and speed of your treadmill and included audio coaching.
Note: The 2012 NordicTrack Commercial 1750 typically sells for $1,499 with shipping, and includes 1-year free iFit Live subscription. A good value. Go to www.NordicTrack.com for the latest price.*
The new iFit Live turns your treadmill into an interactive motivational cardio machine. Through a Wi-Fi connection the Commercial 1750 can communicate with the Internet. This is how it works: You log into iFit.com and define your fitness goals, like loosing weight over a certain time period. Once you set up your account, here are some of the benefits...
iFit Live will download workout programs that are tailored to your fitness goals. In fact, you can workout with Jillian Michaels, and she'll provide audio coaching. iFit Live will monitor your progress and adjust the routines accordingly. With every workout iFit Live will incrementally increase the difficultly so you are continually building cardio strength while you burn more calories. So often the downfall to getting in shape and losing weight is falling into a rut.
You can further monitor your progress through your online account. Your treadmill will communicate your progress and results to your iFit.com account. .
Run Around the World with Google Maps
This feature makes iFit Live a killer app. You can connect to Google Maps and walk or run roadways and trails around the world. According to NordicTrack, "iFit® Live allows you to experience trails all over the world and watch your progress on the display map. To further enhance your hiking experience, iFit® Live automatically adjusts your incline to simulate the physical features of the terrain." You can view your progress either with a map, satellite or street view using a laptop or smart phone. I tried this feature and was able to run down my street while the treadmill adjusted for the hills.
In addition to the above, NordicTrack also runs competitive races where you can compete against other iFit Live users, or you can compete with friends or family. Furthermore, if you are a competitive runner, there are a series of programs for training for 5k, 10K or marathon races.
Walking or running in place can be incredibly boring. Often the minutes drag by. iFit Live is designed to motivate the user by creating a variety of entertaining challenges.
NordicTrack Commercial 1750 Treadmill Features
Full Color LCD Touch Screen Google Android Tablet Display — The color display is much more visually appealing than your typical one color LCD or LED display. The display lets you directly access iFit.com and the iFit Live features. When you trace a route on Google Maps you can get a street, satellite or earth view, which you cannot get on their cheaper models.
3.5 Continuous Duty HP Motor — This is a powerful motor for a treadmill and should run effortlessly at even the highest speeds.
20" x 60" Running Surface — It should be noted that most manufacturers rate the length by treadbelt. What they don't tell you is that 1"-3" is covered by shrouds. The 60" length is the actual length on the Commercial 1750.
QuadFlex Shock Absorption Deck — You'll find the QuadFlex Deck on their lower priced NordicTrack C 900, but they enhanced it with increased shock absorption on the Commercial 1750. The QuadFlex Deck is designed to absorb the shock of your impact while providing an energy return when you lift off. NordicTrack claims this patented design allows you to exercise longer. My perception is that it provides excellent shock absorption.
3" Rollers — These are the largest rollers you will find on a treadmill at this price. The benefit of large rollers is they reduce the amount of rotation to turn the treadbelt. This is turn reduces wear and tear on the motor, belt and bearings. It also can reduce the noise level.
3% Decline — With the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 you can simulate running up and down hills, which in turn allows you to stimulate and tone different muscles groups. It inclines up to 15% and declines to 3%. This feature further enhances your experience running up and down hills with Google Maps. NordicTrack is one of the few to offer a declining feature.
Sound System and MP3 Input — NordicTrack offers one of the best built-in sound systems in the industry. It has 3" high-excursion drivers, which I have no idea what that means, but the result is a sound clarity not found on other brands. You also can plug in your iPod or MP3 player.
8" Workout Fan — Often manufacturers include a fan that is virtually worthless. This fan has 3 speeds that kicks out some breeze and targets your core. In addition, you can set it for manual and the fan will speed up as you run faster.
Unit Weight 290 Lbs — The NordicTrack 1750 is similar in weight to many commercial treadmills. You can expect it to be very stable even running at fast speeds. You'll probably want to opt for the inside delivery.
30 Exercise Programs — If you don't want to spend the extra money for the iFit Live, you have 30 built-in exercise programs to choose from.
Warranty — Normally NordicTrack offers a 1-year parts and labor warranty. In comparison, the Commercial 1750 has a lifetime motor, 5-year parts and 2-year labor warranty, the best coverage you will find at this price.
Our Review - NordicTrack Commercial 1750 Treadmill
NordicTrack is owned by the largest fitness equipment company in the world. They've always ruled the budget category of treadmills through brands like Image, Weslo and ProForm. Over the last few years they have concentrated on building higher end machines, with some very impressive features like iFit Live.
In the past, I used to scoff at Icon products. Well, actually, I still discourage people from buying their cheap Image and Welso treadmills. However, NordicTrack has gone through an impressive transition. They've made vast improvements in both quality control and customer service, and consequently, offer some of the best value in the $1,000-$2,000 price range. Their machines not only spec out better than the competition, but also hold up quite well.
The NordicTrack Commercial 1750 treadmill is a perfect example of the advancements made by the company. It is loaded with impressive features like a powerful motor, extended deck, color display, sound system, and variety of programs. More importantly, it offers iFit Live, which is the most innovative technology to hit the treadmill industry in years.
When selling at $1,499 with shipping, the Commercial 1750 is a "Best Buy" consideration.
Consumer Magazine Review
A popular consumer magazine gave the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 a "Best Buy" rating. It received an "Excellent" for exercise range, and a "Very Good" for construction.
From NordicTrack
I recently received these comments from the company...
Just so you know, the reason we waited so long to put the Commercial 1750 on sale was to make sure that everything was working seamlessly. We have always thought that treadmill would be our best and we did not want to release it until it had been tested more than any other treadmill. In fact, it was put through over 2 months of testing, 3 weeks (504 hrs) of pound testing (meaning we pounded the deck with 475 lbs of force, over 1 million times), 200 hrs of human testing, 4 months (1000 hrs) of console testing and that includes white noise, software checks, console functionality and static electricity charges. A grand total of 1704 hours of testing.
I think that makes for a pretty good story and is why we can offer such a good warranty.
NordicTrack 1750 Treadmill Customer Review
The 1750 is my favorite treadmill! I have had a few other treamills and this one blows them all out of the water. I love the ifit technology that it has. I can run any place I have ran before in my life and also run in places that I can only dream of running i.e Paris, Great Wall of China, Beaches in Moraco, etc...
The machine is really strong. My other treadmills seem to always move back and forth when I ran but this one has a sturdy base and won't move side to side when I run on it. It actually feels like a treadmill I used to run on at my gym.
