The NordicTrack Elite XT is designed to get you in shape and entertain you at the same time. And as boring as walking or running in place can be, some distractions are appreciated.

However, what makes this treadmill impressive is the price. Without the flat screen TV and the sound system, it would still be a bargain at the current price. This is one of the better deals available from NordicTrack.

These are the features that make the NordicTrack Elite XT treadmill a good value:

7" Flat Screen TV - Televisions are an ideal distraction from the monotony of exercising in place, and having it built into your console is an ideal location. You can plug in cable, DVD players and iPod video. When the TV is not on, the screen will display all of your workout feedback, plus a multi-color intensity profile.

3.5 Continuous Duty HP Motor - You will usually find this size motor in treadmills starting at $1,800. They use MacMillan motors, which is an excellent brand. That is why you get a lifetime warranty on the motor. At 3.5 HP the Elite XT treadmill will effortlessly handle both walkers and joggers.

20" x 60" Long Treadbelt - Most treadmills in this price range come with a 54" belt. That is fine for an average height user that walks. However, if you are tall or plan to jog you'll appreciate the extra 6" length on the Elite XT.

Intermix Acoustics™ Sound System - I've heard this sound system and the clarity is not that bad. Even when you have the machine cranked up the sound come through.

iFIT Technology - With the iFIT workout cards the treadmill speed, incline and duration is controlled, providing a challenging workout. That alone is nothing special, since all treadmills have installed programs. What makes the iFIT technology unique is certified personal trainers design the workouts.

There are four categories of cards - weight loss, performance, wellness and body shaping. Each card has 24 workouts that cover an 8-week period. With each workout there is an audio of the trainer, who motivates and encourages you. The trainer also recommends ways to improve your performance with tips on posture, stride, breathing, etc. A very cool feature that gets users motivated

DuraStride Adjustable Cushioning - This is a unique concept from NordicTrack. You can actually adjust the shock absorption of the Elite XT deck. There is a handle along the deck, which you slide forward or backwards. Although you will not notice a dramatic difference, you can make the cushioning sturdier or softer, depending on your preference.

Our Review - NordicTrack Elite XT Treadmill

No one does a better job of packaging treadmills than NordicTrack. On the Elite XT you get a big motor, an extra long 60" treadbelt, flat screen TV, sound system, adjustable cushioning and iFit technology. Considering the price this is a generous amount of features.

I would recommend you upgrade the standard warranty. It gives you lifetime coverage on the motor, but only 1 year parts and labor. Protect your investment with another year or two of coverage.

The NordicTrack Elite XT is definitely worth considering if you want a machine that will get you in shape and entertain you at the same time.
