NordicTrack
is leading the way in offering flat screen televisions built into the console.
They currently have three different models (NordicTrack 2800, 3000, 3200).
Having access to a TV while you are running
on a treadmill makes sense, because walking or running in place can get boring.
The NordicTrack 2800 is their least expensive TV installed treadmill.
As of this review, it was selling for $1,200. (Shipping not included). The flat-screen
television with MP3 input is making this a popular machine. However, the most
important feature is the reliability. How will this treadmill hold up under strenuous
use? It should be noted the resolution of the screen is impressive. NordicTrack
2800 Features The
treadmill comes with a 2.5 continuous duty motor. When I ran on it, it only started
to strain at higher speeds. This motor should be able to handle both walking and
jogging. For strenuous running you will want more power. You get a 20"x 55"
treadbelt, that means the actually running surface is somewhere around 53".
Adequate for average height individuals.
As with most NordicTrack treadmills,
the 2800 is equipped with iFIT technology. By inserting a card into the
console, you get customized workouts created by personal trainers. You get targeted
workouts, motivational personal coaching and music. The programs control the speed
and incline of the machine. The catch is there is an additional cost for the programs.
In addition to the iFIT, you get a generous selection of 12 pre-programmed
workouts, 4 heart rate workouts and 2 Mydesign workouts. Since the 2800
does not come with wireless heart rate control, I assume the four heart rate workouts
require holding on to the handlebars. That can be awkward. The one weakness
is the warranty. Although you get a lifetime warranty with the motor, the parts
and labor is only one year. Most treadmills over $1,000 have a minimum of 2 years
parts. The Smooth 5.25 has a 3-year warranty on parts,
but no TV. You can extend the warranty on the 2800 for an additional cost. Also,
be concerned about the cost to replace the TV if it should stop working. Recently
when I talked to a salesperson at a fitness equipment store, he suggested the
cost may be more than the treadmill. Our Review Although the NordicTrack
2800 has some sweet features, our concern is about the reliability. The same company
that manufactures ProForm, Weslo, Image and Reebok builds NordicTrack. Brands
known for compromised quality and high maintenance. In addition, the company does
not have the best reputation for service. We rank this treadmill below average
on quality and durability. Also
