I
recently tested the New Balance 1500 treadmill at the local Sports Authority.
Usually I will engage a conversation with the salespeople, when you can locate
one. In this case, the individual I talked to had some very complimentary things
to say about the 1500. In particular, he mentioned that the NB 1500 had an excellent
service record. He mentioned in the two years they carried this model, there were
few service calls. The New Balance 1500 is nothing fancy, but for the price,
you get a solid machine, with some innovative features. For example the EZ
CARE Belt Adjustment. At the end of the deck, you can optically view the position
and lineup of the belt. To realign you simply turn a knob. You also have the EZ
CARE Deck Access Port. You can clean and lubricate the deck without having
to take it apart. For anyone who has ever tried to lubricate a deck, you will
really appreciate this feature.
There
are several weaknesses. First, the console is a membrane plastic overlay. Looks
and feels cheap, but the treadmill only goes for $1,000, so you have to have some
compromises. Second, the warranty is only one year for parts. For the same price,
you can get the Smooth 5.45 with three years parts.
It should also be noted the New Balance 1500 has a rather rigid deck. I
found the shock absorption to be adequate, but others may want a treadmill that
has better impact reduction.
Our Review - New Balance !500
For $1,000 the New Balance
1500 treadmill is a reasonable value, and overall a solid machine. I would say
it is a contenders at this price range.
You can find the 1500
had some of the large sports equipment stores like Sports Authority. Call first
to make sure that have this particular model. From what I can tell, it is very
similar to the New Balance 1400.
However, I do have to mention I have received several negative reviews about the customer service with Fitness Quest, who sells New Balance treadmills.
At this price range I also recommend the Sole F80, the Smooth 6.25 and the BowFlex Series 7.
Customer Reviews
"As a customer, I am very disappointed with New Balance 1500 treadmill and customer service. I receive a damaged treadmill from Sports Authority and I had to get service from New Balance. However, Fitness Quest handles their calls and there are only 2 individuals who provide customer service for the whole United States. I keep getting this one individual who does not spend the time to listen to my concern before dismissing my case. If I had to do it again, I would of purchase a NordicTrack treadmill or from other recognizable treadmill companies. Think twice before purchasing from New Balance. They should stick to making shoes."
"Treadmill worked great when it worked. Needed first servicing 9 minutes into first use and again 3 months later. Servicing of treadmill first time took 3 weeks. 2nd time has been 4.5 weeks and still not fixed. Lack of communication with Fitness Quest and technicians lacking."
