Horizon T73 Treadmill Review

The Horizon T73 treadmill is one of their better attempts. In general, the customer reviews on Amazon.com are positive. My issue with this particular model is for the price the specs just don't match up well with the competition.

Horizon is one of the biggest sellers of treadmills in the world. They are second to Icon Fitness (NordicTrack, ProForm, Epic, Image) in treadmill sales. I'm not sure if the motto of "We Try Harder" works for Horizon. I generally find their budget treadmills to be substandard, however, I believe the $1,000+ models are a vast improvement, and more reliable. Lets take a look at the T73.

Horizon T73 Treadmill Features.

2.25 Continuous Duty HP Motor - You'll find that most of the comparably priced treadmills will have larger motors. At 2.25 HP you will want to restrict this treadmill to walking, and maybe light jogging.

20" x 55" Running Surface - The important term is "Running Surface." Most manufacturers define the length by the treadbelt. What they don't mention is often 1"-3" of the belt is hidden under the shroud. In which case, the T73 has a reasonably long running surface.

2.5" Rollers - These are decent size rollers, and will contribute to less wear and tear on the bearings, belt and motor. Larger rollers often result in lower noise levels.

Console and Display - Overall the console is fairly basic, and I am not crazy about the single orange lit LED display window. You get eight preset workout programs, which is about average. There are also built-in fans that will give you relief when you are sweating off those calories.

Warranty - At this price Horizon should do better. You get 12 years coverage on the motor. Many companies are offering lifetime coverage. The Horizon T73 also comes with a 1-year parts and labor warranty. Many competitors are offering a longer parts warranty.

If I were to base my review strictly on how the features match-up against the competition - I would say take a pass. However, the Horizon T73 got some very positive reviews on Amazon.com. Another consideration that cost a few more dollars is the BowFlex Series 7. It is one of the most popular treadmills on Amazon.com, and the reviews are very impressive. If you want to spend a few less dollars, check out the Smooth 5.45. It has a good service record and is a durable and stable machine.

Final Note: The manufacturer lists the maximum user weight at 325 lbs. That is the kind of weight capacity of a commercial treadmill. This is not a commercial grade treadmill. Especially with the 2.25 HP motor, I would max out at about 225 lbs.

I don't ever write reviews, but this time I'll make an exception. This is a great treadmill. I've purchased 3 other treadmill from local stores (Sear... Kmar... Wal...) trying to save some money and keep it around $500 and returned every one. too noisy or rickety. A year has passed and thought I'd give it another shot. Looked at the reviews and went with this one hoping that it would be sturdy and quite as promised. OMG, it is a beautiful machine. did have a slight problem, when it was delivered, the box was ripped open on the corner and the protective cap on the back lag was busted off. I emailed Horizon on their web site and they are shipping me out a replacement out this same day. That's great customer service. But the actual treadmill is wonderful. Nice long platform for a good stride without feeling you're going to fall off.... and quiet. If your looking for a great walk (or run) at a decent price, this is the way to go.]

The treadmill works for us...however the programming takes a bit of getting used to. The assembly went a lot better than we expected. Overall love the product great value for the money.
