Horizon T500 Treadmill Review

The Horizon T500 treadmill qualifies as a budget machine, and although it has a competitive price, buyers should be aware of the limitations.

One of the biggest issues with the fitness equipment industry is they tend to oversell their products. They do not manage the expectations of the customer. For example, at this price range the Horizon T500 qualifies as a walking machine. You can jog on it, but considering the size of the motor and the length of the treadbelt, it is primarily designed for walking. Nowhere is this suggested on the product description.

Another problem with treadmill manufacturers is they tend to exaggerate the user weight limit. The T500 limit is listed at 275 lbs, while they suggest the motor can handle a person weighing up to 300 lbs. When you consider the abuse a treadmill must withstand with the constant impact, 275 lbs. is pushing the limit. And when you consider the power it takes to move a 300 lb. person, a 2.0 HP motor will just not cut it. At least not for the long haul.

Only consider the T500 treadmill for walking, and I would put the user weight limit at around 225 lbs.

Other Features

50" Treadbelt Length - These days even budget treadmill come with at least a 54" treadbelt. The 50" belt on the T500 is rather short. I would not recommend this treadmill if you are above average height. You will feel like you are about to walk off the end.

Workout Programs - The treadmill features nine interactive workout programs for a variety of options and has eTRAK technology so you can monitor your progress. The eTRAK tracks your current Workout, last Workout, average Workout and the lifetime total. Always nice to monitor your progress.

Warranty - I-year parts and labor, 25 years on the motor. You may want to upgrade the warranty, considering this is a budget machine.

Our Review - Horizon T500 Treadmill

If you plan to buy the T500, understand this is a budget machine with limitations. They include a lightweight motor, and a below average belt length. However, if you are a walker and average height, then this treadmill should be sufficient.

You can purchase the T500 at Dick's Sporting Goods. In checking out the customer reviews, the majority seemed to be satisfied. Several customers had mechanical issues right out of the box.
