The Horizon LS780T treadmill is a good example of a budget treadmill that comes equipped with a few nice features, which may be perfect for your workout needs. (Realize, though, that a treadmill in this category is only going to efficiently handle a certain amount of weight and impact.)
This treadmill is a vast improvement over the cheap models found in stores like Wal-Mart or Target. However, it is not as durable as higher price models.
Take a look below at the specifications of the LS780T to see what it has to offer. Determine if this treadmills is sufficient for your body weight, height and fitness goals.
Horizon Fitness LS780T Treadmill Specifications
20" x 50" running surface: The length is about average for this price and is sufficient for walkers of average height.. If you have an extra-long stride, you may need a bigger running area.
Speed range between 0.5 and 10 mph: This is a pretty standard speed range. Most people aren't going to reach the maximum limit, and if they did, this particular machine probably wouldn't handle it well. The LS780T is best suited for walking. Many who purchase may end up jogging on it and have no problems. I would suggest you upgrade if you plan to jog or run.
1-10% power incline capacity: This is also fairly standard on treadmills that have the incline feature. You can burn more calories and challenge your leg muscles more by increasing the incline level.even just a little.
2.0 hp continuous-duty motor: The motor is good for accommodating one or two users who plan to walk or occasionally jog. Hard-core runners or multiple users would fare better on a higher quality treadmill with a more powerful motor.
Contact heart rate grips: A quite common feature, although it is nice to check to see how high your heart rate is.
Nine workout programs: Not as many workout programs as some treadmills have, but the nine programs still give you some variety in preprogrammed workouts. You can always increase the intensity levels to optimize your workouts and focus on your fitness goals.
Folds for easy storage: Convenient for users who have limited space.
My Recommendation on the Horizon LS780T Treadmill
When selling for around $700 with shipping the LS780T treadmill is decent buy. It doesn't have a lot of extra special features. It is made with parts that are likely not up to par with those on higher end treadmills. I probably wouldn't pay much more than the sale price for this particular model.
The suggested maximum user weight is 275 pounds. If you're over 225 pounds, you'd be better off investing in a sturdier, more powerful machine. This treadmill isn't going to be as stable and durable as a heavier user really needs.
The warranties on this treadmill are typical-lifetime on the frame and motor and one-year on parts and labor. I recommend spending a little more for the 2-year extended warranty, so that you're protected if it breaks down.
Overall, Horizon Fitness builds some of the better budget treadmills on the market.
