Everyone wants to get the best value for their money. Some products appear to be really great buys on the surface, but turn out to be nightmares. This is also true of certain budget treadmills. Do your homework and be aware of what you are buying before committing to any big purchase. In the long run, you'll be glad you did!

During my own personal research, I have come across quite a few affordable treadmills with some very nice features. I wouldn't buy based on features alone, however! Not all budget treadmills are created equally.

Here are a few important questions to consider before purchasing a treadmill:

• What is the maximum user weight limit?
• How powerful is the motor?
• How large is the running surface?
• Is it equipped with all the features you desire?
• How sturdy and durable is the treadmill?
• What kind of warranties do you get?

How does the Horizon T92 treadmill measure up?

Compared to other inexpensive treadmills, the Horizon T92 exceeds some of the cheaper models in quality and features. In fact, this model is really good for walkers and for first-time treadmill buyers who simply want to shed a few pounds and get back into shape. It is NOT a practical machine for runners or users who exceed the maximum weight limit!

Horizon T92 Features

The T92 has a maximum weight limit listed at 300 pounds. I suggest that you subtract at least 50 pounds from that limit. If you want optimal performance and endurance, it's best not to push that weight limit too far.

The T92 treadmill is equipped with a 2.25 hp continual duty motor . This machine is best suited for users who plan to use it for easy walking to light jogging. Runners would do better with a machine that has a more powerful, durable motor and a sturdier frame.

A 20" x 55" running surface is found on the Horizon T92 . This is about an average size treadmill running area and should be sufficient for all but those users who have a really long stride.

Additional features of the T92 treadmill :

Thirteen versatile workout programs from which to choose to keep you motivated and to help you reach your fitness goals. The programs include 12 goal-based programs and one custom program.

Contact heart rate grips on the handlebars allow you to monitor your heart rate and adjust intensity levels accordingly. Standard feature on most treadmills, however it is nice to monitor the level of your exertion.

Fan in console helps to keep you cool and comfortable during workouts, although it is not going to blow you away.

MP3 input with speakers in the console make it easy to listen to your favorite music, thereby adding to the enjoyment of your workout sessions.

Adjustable cushioning allows you to set the amount of cushioning to a level that is most comfortable for you. You may not notice a huge difference in the adjustment.

Three orange, easy-to-read backlit LCD displays on the console make it convenient for you to monitor your progress. For the price the console is one of the better looking.

Speed capacity up to 10 mph and 0-10% power incline with Quick Keys for easily adjusting the intensity of your workouts while in motion.

Our Review - Horizon Fitness T92 Treadmill

The T92 treadmill by Horizon isn't a top-of-the-line model, but it does measure up fairly well against other machines in its price range. Setup of this treadmill is relatively fast and simple. When not in use, the machine conveniently folds for easy storage.

The motor and belt run smoothly and quietly under normal conditions. Be aware that excessive wear and tear could occur prematurely if the machine is constantly used by multiple users, hard-core runners, or overly obese users.

The Horizon T92 treadmill is covered by warranties that are about normal for models in this price range. There is a lifetime warranty on both the frame and the motor and a one-year warranty on parts and labor. Because this isn't a high-end treadmill, the parts used aren't necessarily top of the line. Therefore, it's a good idea to protect your investment with the extended warranty.
