The
Bowflex Series 3 treadmill is a durable machine for the price and a solid value. The Series 3 along with the Bowflex Series 7 are two of the best treadmills is their price range.
They are built with quality
components; are equipped with a nice selection of features; and have a reputation
for low maintenance. That is why they received such high customer ratings.
Reliability
is one of the major factors in purchasing a treadmill, and it is one of the most
difficult features to discern. I try to get an idea of the durability of a machine
through customer reviews.
Note: As of 11/18/09 the Bowflex Series 3 was selling for $899 with shipping at Amazon.com .
That is $100 lower than the previous price.
I also talk to the salespeople, and attempt to get the "inside
scoop." The feedback I get is the Bowflex series 3 is a durable machine
in comparison to other treadmills selling for $999.
The Bowflex Series 3
has a 54" long walking surface. Adequate for moderate height individuals.
The deck has the right amount of absorption when your foot lands towards the front
of the belt, and it has adequate support when you push off from the back. The
idea is to have a deck that absords in the front of the deck and is more rigid
towards the back of the deck.
The warranty is comparable to other models
at this price range. (motor - 10 years; parts/electronics - 2 years; labor - 1
year). The selection of programs is limited, but it comes with popular programs
like cardio, running, fat burn, speed interval jogger, and hill intervals. Interval
training is very popular these days. The Series 3 comes with a 4 window
LED display, that allows you to get feedback on speed, distance, workout time,
incline level, and burned calories There is also EKG grip pulses to monitor the
heart rate while exercising. Pretty standard stuff. One feature that
stands out is the overall weight - 250 lbs. That makes the Series 3 one of
the heaviest treadmills at $1.000. A factor that contributes to a solid and sturdy
feel. There is a real difference in the feel in comparison to budget Proform and
Horizon treadmills. I have one concern, and that is the 1.75 hp continuous
duty motor. If you compare the Series 3 to other $1,000 treadmills, you'll find
it has the lowest HP for a motor. However, you need to consider that not all treadmill
motors are the same. There is no standard rating, and many manufacturers fudge
on the horsepower. I know, I worked for a company that did that very exact thing.
Therefore, this motor may be equivalent to other models and brands that claim
a higher HP. Regardless, when walking on the Series 3 the motor did not appear
to strain. This treadmill is basically designed for walkers, as is any
treadmill at this price. If you are considering jogging or running, you'll want
to upgrade to the Series 5 or Series 7. Moreover, even if it states this treadmill
has a maximum user weight of 275 lbs, I would upgrade if you weigh over 225. Customer
