Smooth
Fitness Ranks 11th Among Sporting Goods Internet Retailers
Smooth
Fitness started as a handful of fitness specialty stores in the Philadelphia area.
Realizing the potential of the Internet early on, they became one of the first
companies to offer quality fitness equipment online. Due
the restrictions put on online sales from fitness companies like True and Landice,
the Smooth Fitness determined the necessity of selling their own brand of fitness
equipment. Initially Smooth Fitness sold private labeled fitness equipment from
established companies like Keys, Spirit, Kettler and Bodycraft. Smooth
Fitness Grows at Impressive Pace As
their Internet business continued to grow at an impressive pace, the company realized
that the real money was in designing and manufacturing their own products. Like
the majority of U.S. fitness equipment manufacturers, Smooth Fitness started outsourcing
the production initially to Taiwan and then to China.
Their
current line-up of Smooth Fitness treadmills and Smooth
elliptical trainers are built overseas, and have been for a number of years.
There has been a major shift of manufacturing to primarily Taiwan and China. In
fact, the only U.S. manufactured treadmills are Landice, PaceMaster and some True
models. Their
products have proven to be of above average quality. When compared to comparable
models, the Smooth Fitness equipment matches or surpasses their competition in
features and standard specifications. The
primarily value proposition of Smooth Fitness is to sell quality fitness equipment
direct to the consumer. You cannot purchase their products in any retail stores.
They are only available online and directly from Smooth Fitness. Without the overhead
costs of a retail store and staff, they are able to pass on the savings. That
is why their treadmills and elliptical trainers are some of the best values in
the market. Smooth
Fitness Ranks as Top E-RetailerThis
value proposition resulted in spectacular growth for the Company. They went from
an obscure fitness retailer, to one of the major online fitness equipment businesses.
Internet Retailer, a business publication serving the retail community, recently
listed Smooth Fitness in their Top 500 guide of online retailers based. Smooth
Fitness ranked 240th out 500, and ranked 11th in the Sporting Goods category.
When you consider all of the major corporate sporting goods companies that sell
online, that says something about the volume of their sales. The ranking is based
on overall sales, company growth and web metrics. "Our
success comes down to four things: a large volume of sales, continual product
innovation, extremely high customer satisfaction ratings and a single-minded focus
on selling on-line," said Joe Alter, CEO of Smooth Fitness. If
you are considering a treadmill or elliptical trainer, we suggest you check out
Smooth Fitness. Their continual growth is evident of a company that provides value
and service to their customers.
