I
recently stopped at ProSource
Fitness Equipment in Raleigh. They were promoting both Diamondback
treadmills and elliptical trainers. I was particularly interested
in the new line of treadmills. Diamondback is best known for their
bikes and stepper, which have an excellent reputation.
Diamondback
first released their treadmills several years ago. According to
Dan at ProSource, the first generation treadmills had some problems.
There new line-up is a whole different machine. Although they have
only been out for a short period, according to Dan they are holding
up quite well.
There
are 3 models, 500Tm, 600Tm and the 700Tm. They are all non-folding
treadmills. They come with 2.5" rollers - a good size that
will reduce wear on the motor, bearings, roller and belt. You get
a well designed and user friendly LED console and display. Each
treadmill is a hefty weight, contributing to a solid and sturdy
feel. (If you buy one don't try to move it yourself.) When I cranked
up the speed the belt was relatively quiet. Quiet enough to watch
TV at a moderate volume.
The
main differences between the three models are as follows:

Diamondback
500Tm
$1,569

Diamondback
600Tm

Diamondback
700Tm

Each
treadmill is covered with a reasonable warranty. Lifetime motor,
5-year parts and 1-year labor.
The
one feature I did not like was the plastic side guards. I would
be concerned they may crack with a bit of pressure. Also, the 500Tm
was lacking quick speed and incline buttons. To raise or lower speed
and incline you had to continually push a button. Minor complaints.
Our
Review - Diamondback Treadmills
It
appears Diamondback treadmills have improved with their second generation.
Overall, the machines seem solid and durable. I also would say they
are priced competitively, when you consider features and warranty.
My concern is how they will last over the long run. Since their
first generation failed, I would proceed with caution in the new
models. But, if Diamondback can put the same quality into their
treadmills as they do with their bikes, you are getting a good value.
This may be a case of wait and see, rather than being a guinea pig.
