To assist those who are considering a treadmill for around $799 to $999, I offer the following recommendations. Generally, I recommend you avoid treadmills below $500. (Prices listed below are from 4/1/10.)
Walking/Jogging Treadmills
If you plans to jog on your treadmill, or maybe you may start walking and want to advance to jogging, I recommend the models below. Most manufacturers would suggest you can jog on even budget models There are many that jog on models like the ones listed above and they hold up. I prefer to be cautious in my recommendations.
The models below are recommend for moderate jogging. If you plan on running daily you should consider treadmills in the $1,500+ range.
Smooth Fitness 5.65 - $999 (Includes Shipping)
Smooth has always had a strong treadmill at the $999 price range. The Smooth 5.65 is their latest release. It comes with 2.5 HP motor and a 55" treadbelt. The emphasis is less on fancy programming and features, and more on quality components. Of all the recommended treadmills, this model probably has the best shock absorption. You also get a lifetime motor, 3-year parts and 2-year labor warranty. For the price you are getting a low very maintenance machine.

NordicTrack T 5.7 - $599 (Includes Shipping)
You get many of the same features that are found on other treadmills in this price range. It is equipped with a 2.5 HP motor and a 55" treadbelt. What distinguishes this treadmill from the competition is that it is iFit Live compatible. For an extra cost you can run the world or train with Jillian Michaels. Your treadmill communicates with the Internet and can download customized workout sessions. In addition, it can simulate walking or running trails and routes located on Google Maps by adjusting the incline to the actual terrain. With a laptop or smart phone you can visualize your progress through Google Maps.

Sole Fitness F63 - $999 (Includes Shipping)
Although the best Sole treadmills are in the $1,500+ range, the F63 is still a very good value for the price, and a fairly sturdy treadmill. It does not come with many bells and whistles, but you do get a durable machine for the price. It weighs a hefty 245 lbs. The heaviest of all the models recommended. You also get wireless heart rate control. built-in speakes and fan, and extra large rollers, which extend the life of several essential parts. This model was rated a best buy by a popular consumer magazine.
