What
to Consider Before You Buy
When
doing a proper treadmill comparison there are a number
of factors to take into consideration. There are countless models with prices
starting as low as $200 and exceeding $7,000. Some are manual, most are powered.
But with any when shopping for a treadmill you want to look at the big picture.
That requires comparing not only the treadmill, but the source you plan to make
the purchase from.
Below
is a list of factors to consider when comparing treadmills:
The
Quality of Treadmill parts In
any comparison you have to research the components. That includes, but is not
limited to belt, deck, motor, electronics, rollers and frame. These are the major
components, and comparing their quality will give you a good feel as to how good
your treadmill is. In particular be aware of the listing of the motor. There are
no standards to grade treadmill motors by, therefore some claims may be excessive.
Regardless, you want to compare motors that are rated as continuous duty. What
is continuous duty? Continuous duty horsepower ratings are the amount of power
a motor will produce "continuously" at a given RPM (revolutions per
minute). Continuous duty HP is the "working power" of a treadmill motor,
providing constant power to the drive belt. A good source of information on parts
and components is our Treadmill Buying Guide. Treadmill
Warranty One
of the most important features in a treadmill comparison is the warranty. The
warranty really says it all. It would make sense that if a treadmill is not built
to last then the manufacturer will not back it with an extensive warranty. A simple
comparison of the treadmill warranty will tell you if the machine is built to
last years or months. On
quality treadmills the warranty will vary with different parts. You may find a
separate period for the motor. If the warranty exceeds five years then you can
be reasonably assured that the motor is quality and built for endurance. Most
important, is that the motor is sufficient for regular vigorous use. Getting
Your Treadmill Service Another
very important factor is the quality of the service. If you plan to use your treadmill
on regular basis, at some point you will need service. Will you find it difficult
to get the agreed service, or will the company make servicing your treadmill simple
and easy. By
checking reviews and ratings you can get a feel for the quality of the service
department. Several online comparison shopping sites provide reviews of companies.
Also, check out customer testimonials, if available. Hearing what the customer
has to say, gives you great insight. Buying
a quality treadmill is costly expense. That is why a thorough treadmill research
and comparison is so important. Be an educated buyer and get the treadmill that
will meet your fitness goals. But most important get a model that allows you to
focus on exercising and not maintaining it.
